Workshops

Workshop & House Tour Programme

We run three different types of workshop/house tours. The most frequent is our "Mud Brick Skills Workshop". Two others are " Mud bricks in the backyard" and "The Alternative House Tour"

1. Mud Brick Skills Workshop

Our Mud brick Skills Workshops aim to give the participants hands-on experience of the sheer joy and practicality of building out of mud. During the spring, we are trying a new format for this popular and useful instruction. Participation in the workshop should give you the confidence and know- how to have a crack at your own project. The idea is to train you in our "kiss methods" which can enable you to become the teacher and successfully pass the skills onto others who may want to be involved in your mud brick building. Your instruction will be based around building a real house. The first day is mostly instructional. On the other two days, it is expected that you will practise and hone your skills. If you complete three sessions over a three month period, your deposit will be fully refunded.

We are more interested in passing on our valuable thirty-five years experience in earth building, plus getting my son's house built, than making money from the endeavour....hence the refund offer.

This is how it works

You pay an upfront deposit of $250 and book into three workshop dates. Generally these dates will be on Saturday. If we cancel a particular Saturday for any reason, participants will need to reschedule their attendance. The building site is at Kyneton in central Victoria .We start at 8.30 a.m. and finish between one and two o'clock in the afternoon. Our idea is that participants can cover the effort we put into their proper instruction by contributing to the construction of the walls in my son's house, over their attendance at second and third sessions. For the participant, this is very useful in consolidating your newly acquired knowledge plus is a great benefit from connections you may form with other participants of similar interest. After you have completed three sessions there will be other opportunities to further your experience if you express an interest in other areas of construction and building. Because the workshop is seriously hands-on, spaces are limited. For instance we can only take about three or four people each week who are doing their introductory session.

To book into a workshop phone us on 54221808 (early morning is best or leave a message)

Dates include: August 27, September 3, Other dates in September to be announced, October 8, October 15, October 22, October 29, November 5, November12 . There may also be some Friday afternoon sessions available.

2. Mudbricks in the Backyard Workshop

This one day workshop has several forms. It can be conducted on site for schools that have building projects for theiar students located on scool property. It is also located at times at Mudbrick Circus property, with its memorable wood fired pizza lunch. Generally this workshop covers the construction of small buildings using mini bricks. It is aimed at a wide range of ages certainly down to primary school children.
